Before guests can mingle with the horses in a field, they learn about the animals’ connection to Indigenous peoples’ history and way of life.
“We truly believe these horses can bridge cultures,” said Basden, who owns TJ Stables with his wife, Terry Jenkins.
The horses ran wild years ago on Walpole Island, but they’re now rare. Jenkins returned from Fort Frances, Ont., in 2019 with 15.
