Asda trials vegan butcher counter Print
Asda is to trial a supermarket vegan butcher counter as plant-based eating continues to grow in popularity.
The supermarket giant is partnering with vegan concept creator Kbox Global to trial the counter at its Watford store. Veelicious will open in the New Year as a six-month trial to coincide with Veganuary and will have a consistent vegan butcher offering – including facon, bean burgers, and meat-free meatballs.
Asda has reported a 175% year-on-year increase in online searches for ‘vegan’ on asda.com.
Veelicious, which has prices starting from 75p, will serve a range of meat-free alternatives such as mock lamb and vegan ‘black pudding’, as well as a small selection of vegan cheeses, ready-to-eat meal kits and vegan staples, such as chutneys and base cooking sauces.
