IFC to provide $3m loan to ElCat to increase fiver coverage in remote areas
AKIPRESS.COM - International Finance Corporation (World Bank Group) will provide a US$3 million loan to ElCat LLC, Kyrgyzstan s largest wholesale broadband operator, to increase fiber coverage in underserved areas.
Fiber optic cable is the leading technology for reliable high-speed data transmission and will enable mobile and fixed broadband connectivity.
This is IFC’s first investment in the country’s telecommunications sector. As a landlocked nation, the Kyrgyz Republic’s limited international bandwidth has delayed the adoption of broadband technologies and internet usage, especially in rural areas. With some estimates assessing the fixed broadband penetration rate at about 19 percent, access to high‐speed Internet remains limited and costly for individuals and businesses. Meanwhile, average fixed and mobile broadband Internet speeds are well below the global average.

2020 Data Center M&A Deal Value Passes the $30 Billion Milestone
RENO, Nev., Dec. 15, 2020 New data from Synergy Research Group shows that the value of data center-oriented M&A deals that closed in the first eleven months of 2020 blew past the $30 billion mark, far surpassing the previous annual record set in 2017. In terms of deal volume, the final 2020 number will almost certainly pass the record number that closed in 2019. With a number of potential December deals still on the table, 2020 has so far seen 113 deals closed at a total value of $30.9 billion. While the $8.4 billion acquisition of Interxion by Digital Realty helped to boost the 2020 number, five other billion dollar-plus deals have closed so far this year, plus there was a $2 billion secondary share listing.
