The pace of the vaccine rollout and downward trend in infections and deaths means the UK s four chief medical officers (CMOs) have agreed that the nationwide alert level should move from level five - the highest - to level four.
The alert level moved to level five on January 4, but has now moved to level four.
A change in the alert level does not automatically mean restrictions can ease, but it helps to inform Government decisions on lockdown rules.
NEW data has revealed the percentage of people from vulnerable groups in Sussex who have received their first dose of the coronavirus vaccine. The provisional figures from NHS England show the proportion of people aged 70-74, 75-79, and 80 and over who have had their first jab in each sub-regional area of England. The country has been split into 42 Sustainability and Transformational Partnerships (STPs). How the coronavirus vaccine is being rolled out in the Hywel Dda region. In Sussex, the data concerns the area looked after by the Sussex Health and Care Partnership. It shows that 22.7 per cent of people aged 70-74 in the area have received their first dose of the vaccine, 78 per cent of 75-79-year-olds have been given the jab and 86 per cent of people aged 80 and above have had a Covid vaccine.

Seven sites which will test the ways in which connecting people with nature can improve mental wellbeing have been awarded a share of a £5.77 million pot, Environment Minister Rebecca Pow has announced today (Saturday 19 December).
The new test and learn sites, which are based across England, will focus on communities hardest hit by coronavirus. This could include those living in deprived areas, people with mental health conditions or BAME communities. Since the coronavirus pandemic, when many people have experienced distress, loneliness or anxiety, there has been an increased public awareness of the benefits of regular access to green spaces. Studies have shown that this has the potential to improve mental health and wellbeing.
