B.C. immunization executive lead Dr. Penny Ballem, along with provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry, Health Minister Adrian Dix, and Premier John Horgan held a news conference today to announce further details about upcoming vaccinations. Phase 2 will focus on providing vaccinations to those 80 years and above, Indigenous people 65 years and above, residents and staff in supportive and independent-living housing, and homecare staff.

COVID-19 variant cases confirmed at three more schools in Surrey

Fraser Health is working with the Surrey School District to manage exposures at the three schools, which are: Queen Elizabeth Secondary School (9457 King George Boulevard); Frank Hurt Secondary School (13940 77th Avenue); M.B. Sanford Elementary School (7318 143rd Street). Fraser Health stated that individuals at these schools have tested positive for variants but neither specified how many nor what type of variant they found. In addition, Fraser Health stated that “only those staff and students who have been identified as close contacts need to be tested and have been contacted” and that the schools are remaining open.

Teachers and support staff at École Woodward Hill Elementary School in Surrey, B.C., staged a solidarity walk-in Tuesday morning to draw attention to what they say are too lax COVID-19 safety measures in light of new cases of a rapidly spreading coronavirus variant. Dozens of school staff wore red T-shirts reading #RedforBCED as they paraded single file outside the Newton-area school before classes started.

COVID-19 variant detected at additional schools in Surrey and Delta

Lincoln Beddoe/Shutterstock Fraser Health has announced that a COVID-19 variant of concern has been detected at additional schools in Surrey and in Delta. In a statement, Fraser Health said it is working closely with the Surrey School District to manage COVID-19 exposures at  James Ardiel Elementary School, Surrey Traditional Elementary School, and Gobind Sarvar, an independent school. Fraser Health says it is also working with the Delta School District to manage outbreaks at Hellings Elementary School.
