Barbados’ tourism industry is on a strong growth path with 2015 being a record year.
Minister of Tourism and International Transport, Richard Sealy, in an update on the state of the industry, noted that 2015 was a “turnaround year” with many of the vital signs showing steady improvement.
Long stay arrivals grew by 13.7 percent to reach 591,892, the highest on record. The UK remained Barbados’ no. 1 source market contributing 37 percent of business with a year on year increase of 14.1 percent. The USA market, which represented 25 percent of international visitor arrivals, grew by 25 percent. The Caribbean & Latin America and Canadian markets, which equated to 15.9 percent and 12.6 percent of total long stay arrivals, grew by 13.1 percent and 13 percent, respectively.
The death of a Paducah teen resulting from a likely drowning Sunday at Kentucky Lake remains under investigation.
Officers with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife responded to the area of the old beach area at Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park in Marshall County Sunday morning around 8:30. Witnesses at the scene told officers the teen waded into the water from the short and did not resurface. They also said he was alone.
The body of the 17-year-old boy was recovered from the water around 30 minutes. The Department of Fish and Wildlife did not release the teen’s name but did say he was from Paducah.

A man was found deceased after falling into the water at Sugar Bay in Trigg County Saturday afternoon.
Trigg County emergency personnel say the man fell off the back of a boat and into the water around 4 pm
Trigg, Lyon, and Marshall County Rescue Teams all helped in the search of the water for the man. He was located and pronounced dead by the Trigg County Coroner’s Office.
Authorities are not releasing his name to allow notification of next of kin.
