New Brunswick reports 32nd COVID-19 related death, eight new cases Friday

HALIFAX
New Brunswick Public Health is reporting the province s 32nd COVID-19 related death, as well as eight new cases of the virus on Friday.
The latest death involved an individual in their 60s residing in the Edmundston region (Zone 4), who died as a result of COVID-19.
“Marcia and I were deeply saddened to learn that another person has lost their life as a result of COVID-19,” said Premier Blaine Higgs. “On behalf of all New Brunswickers, I would like to share my sincere sympathies with this person’s loved ones.”
“My thoughts and prayers are with the friends and family of this individual during this difficult time,” said Dr. Jennifer Russell, chief medical officer of health. “This tragic loss is a reminder that we must remain vigilant and continue to follow public health advice to protect ourselves and everyone around us from COVID-19.” ....

New Brunswick COVID-19 Update
The provincial government announced updates to its COVID-19 vaccination plan Thursday.
Vaccination clinics will no longer be organized for large employers and home care workers as previously planned. Instead, people in these groups will be vaccinated once their age cohort is eligible.
“Focusing on age-based eligibility will maximize efficiency and allow us to react to changing supply chains as we work to vaccinate New Brunswickers quickly and efficiently with the vaccines available to us,” said Health Minister Dorothy Shephard. “We must be able to make adjustments to our vaccination rollout plan based on updated guidance and the supply of vaccine that is available.” ....

N.B. reports "record numbers" of COVID-19 hospitalizations; 7 new cases Thursday

HALIFAX
Health officials in New Brunswick say they are now seeing a record number of patients in hospitals due to COVID-19, causing a strain on their healthcare system.
As of Thursday, the province has 20 people in hospital, 13 of whom are in the intensive care unit.
This is the largest number of COVID-19 hospital admissions at a single time since the start of the pandemic, said Dr. Jennifer Russell, the province s chief medical officer of health.
According to the Vitalité Health Network, of the 20 people currently in hospital, 13 are at the Edmundston Regional Hospital, including seven patients currently in intensive care. ....
