Saratoga Springs, New York is located in Saratoga County, and is located at 43.07° north and 73.78° west. It has a current population of about 27000.
The name Saratoga originates from the Mohawk tribe of the Iroquois Confederacy, thought there are several interpretations. It comes from the word Se-rach-ta-gue meant the hillside country of the quiet river. The first settlers arrived in the area around Saratoga Springs in 1688. In 1702, Johannes Schuyler came to the area, and organized sawmills and farms in the area around Fish Creek. He invited people from Albany to come and work for him, going so far as to build fortifications to protect the settlements from raiding parties, resulting in the construction of Fort Saratoga. By the mid 1700 s, the area around the fort had 30 dwellings and many small industries.

SCHUYLERVILLE - A campground on the Champlain Canal’s Lock C-5 here will be open from Memorial Day to Sept. 8 and possibly beyond. Reservations to use the “glamping” site are now being taken.
The site is being managed by Camp Rockaway, an excursion company, which will offer so-called safari-style tents, beds, lights and other amenities. This overnight destination combines an exceptional camping experience with opportunities to see and visit the vibrant and rich canalside landscape in entirely new ways,” Gov. Andrew Cuomo said in a prepared statement about the campsite.

UNDERSTANDING SHAKESPEARE: Join us at the Troy Public Library on Thursdays, February 18th – March 18th from 6:30 – 7:30PM for our Understanding Shakespeare workshop. This will be a five-session program on how to understand Shakespeare s plays. We will start our discussion with Act 1 of Shakespeare’s tragedy “Hamlet.” Then in the following four weeks we will discuss the play one act at a time.
