A former Johnstown, New York, sandwich shop owner has been accused of co-conspiring to have an employee killed in 2019 over back payments that he owed her, according to prosecutors.
Jury selection in the murder trial of 52-year-old Georgios Kakavelos began Monday in Saratoga County Court for the 2019 death of 22-year-old Allizybeth A. LaMont.
Kakavelos has been charged with multiple counts of murder, conspiracy, concealment of a human corpse, and evidence tampering, after LaMont s body was found buried in a shallow grave in October 2019. The 22-year-old had vanished three days earlier while working at Kakavelos sandwich shop, Local Substation No. 9, in Johnstown.

BALLSTON SPA The murder trial of Georgios Kakavelos for the 2019 death of Gloversville resident Allizybeth A. Lamont starts today in Saratoga County Court.
Kakavelos, owner of the former Local No. 9 Deli in Johnstown, is being tried before Saratoga County Judge James A. Murphy III.
His co-defendant James A. Duffy, 34, of Johnstown pleaded guilty April 30 to second-degree murder in Saratoga County Court. He will be sentenced July 15.
Duffy confessed to his part in the killing of Lamont, a co-worker, at Local No. 9 Deli. Lamont, who went missing in October 2019, was found after three days in a shallow grave in a marshy area in Malta covered in construction debris and fertilizer where authorities said Duffy and Kakavelo left the body.
