United Way Regina introducing literacy initiatives for school children this year By Moises Canales Jan 27, 2021 1:12 PM United Way Regina is taking part in a number of initiatives over the next year to help early childhood literacy rates in the city. Amanda Lanoway, director of engagement with United Way Regina, said the city has partnered with the Campaign for Grade Level Reading Network (CGLR) in order to provide access to literacy supports for schools and community organizations. “Education is foundational to preventing poverty, violence and crime; learning how to read is a critical piece of this education puzzle. The CGLR focuses on one factor which predicts school success better than all others: Grade 3 reading,” reads a statement by United Way Regina on the newly announced project.

In media releases Friday, Regina Public Schools said it had been told by the Saskatchewan Health Authority about two COVID cases at Rosemont Community School and one at each of Kitchener Community School and Scott Collegiate. Close contacts have been told of the cases and provided with information about self-isolation. At Rosemont, the affected students will start learning remotely and won’t be back in the school until Feb. 3. Students at Kitchener won’t return to the school until Feb. 4. At Scott, students are expected back next Tuesday.

COVID-19 cases count found at three Regina schools By Josh Sigurdson The Saskatchewan Health Authority has confirmed  positive cases of COVID-19 at Regina schools. The cases were found at Rosemont School, Kitchener Community School and Scott Collegiate. All close contacts have been notified and informed about self-isolation. The affected classroom at Rosemont will be taking part in remote learning until Feb. 3, while Kitchener students impacted will be taking part in at-home learning until Feb. 4. Scott Collegiate students affected will have online classes until Jan. 26. Letters will be sent to school families by end of day Friday.
