Camanche firemen celebrate milestone anniversaries

CAMANCHE — Two Camanche Fire Department personnel reached milestones with the department this year. Camanche Fire Chief Dave Schutte announced this week that Assistant Fire Chief and Paramedic Jeff Moore has served 30 years with the Camanche Fire Department. Moore joined the fire department as a volunteer in 1989 an became an arson investigator in 2005. He was hired as a full time firefighter and paramedic for the city in 2010. Moore has served as Assistant Fire Chief since 2012. Lieutenant Eric Dau reached a 20-year service milestone with the department in 2020, Schutte said. Dau joined the department as a volunteer in 1999. He became a paramedic in 2006 and arson investigator in 2011.

Medical director retiring from Camanche Fire Department

Dec 21, 2020 Dr. John Dixon CAMANCHE — Camanche Fire Department Medical Director Dr. John Dixon will be retiring from his position on the department. His retirement will become effective March 1, 2020. Dixon began his duties as the medical director in 1988 under late Fire Chief Bill Rowe. He provided medical direction to the department for over 32 years. Under Dixon’s leadership, the department moved from an EMT level ambulance service to a paramedic level ambulance in 2010. “Dr. Dixon provided an invaluable service to this department and this community for over 32 years. We are grateful for his leadership and his service,” said Camanche Fire Chief Dave Schutte.

Fire damages Camanche residence

CAMANCHE – Camanche authorities are investigating a fire that heavily damaged a residence Thursday morning. Camanche firefighters were called at 9:11 a.m. to 519 15th Place for a report of a residential structure fire, according to a press release. The Camanche Fire Department arrived on scene to find smoke coming from roof and eaves of the residence, After extinguishing the fire, they determined that damage was mostly contained to the kitchen. The house sustained smoke damage throughout. Damage is estimated at $60,000 to the structure and $20,000 to the contents. The origin of the fire was determined to be on top of the stove. The fire appears to be accidental but an exact cause has not yet been determined.
