State s push to vaccinate continues amid Delta variant concerns

HARTFORD, Conn. There is still a push from the state, towns and cities, and health providers to get people vaccinated. One part of the strategy is community outreach. Community Health Centers Inc. has been hosting pop-up clinics in communities around the state. One, being New Britain. The city is only about 47% vaccinated, so CHC has been holding clinics in parks to try to bring the vaccine to people. Tuesday evening, Eneida Melendez was among only a handful of people who stopped by. She said she was hesitant to get vaccinated.

The Thriving Youth Task Force (TYTF) is thrilled to announce that Allegra Erickson and Christina Passaretti will join its executive board for the 2021/22 school year. Erickson will assume the role of Executive Board Co-Chair. She will succeed Shelly Skoglund, who will complete her term as Co-Chair this year. Christina Passaretti will serve as Vice-Chair, succeeding Susan Marks, who will also complete her term this year.
Erickson brings a wealth of experience to the Thriving Youth Task Force. She has served our community on the PTO executive boards of Hindley Elementary, Middlesex Middle School and Darien High School and was a board member, Youth Asset Team Adult Advisor, and Community Investment executive board member for The Community Fund of Darien. She also served as a Deacon and on the building committee at Noroton Presbyterian Church, and is currently a Darien Library Trustee.

STAMFORD, CT The City of Stamford is preparing to inoculate young residents following the Food and Drug Administration s authorization of the Pfizer vaccine for those age 12-15 earlier this week.
Mayor David Martin gave his weekly COVID-19 update on Tuesday night, and said that vaccinations for those age 12-15 are likely to be available as soon as Thursday, May 13 at the Elmcroft and Lord & Taylor super-sites in Stamford.
Dr. Gerald Rakos from Stamford Hospital said vaccinating this age group is vital in the fight against COVID-19. He noted that 85% of the country s population is now vaccine eligible.
Community Health Centers Inc. is offering the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine at several upcoming vaccine events throughout Orange County. Eligible individuals include new or established individuals 18 years old and older for first or second dose of the vaccine.
This event will serve walk-ins only. There is no cost to receive the shot. Participants are asked to take a photo ID with their birthdate.
Vaccinations will be administered from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays, May 11 and 18, at 13275 W. Colonial Drive, Winter Garden; and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursdays, May 13 and 25, at 509 Cagan View Road, Four Corners, Clermont.
