Pensacola Community Health cancels Johnson & Johnson clinics

As the nation began shutting down distribution of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine Tuesday, so did Community Health of Northwest Florida, one of the Pensacola area s largest distributors of the one-shot vaccine.  The Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Tuesday recommended a pause in administering the Johnson & Johnson vaccine after a small number of people who received it experienced blood clots. So far, the federal agencies are reviewing six reported cases out of the almost 7 million vaccines administered in the United States. All of those cases were women between the ages of 18 and 48. One woman died, and one was hospitalized in critical condition. The patients in those cases started experiencing symptoms between six and 13 days after receiving the vaccine.

Community Health plans vaccine clinics, Pensacola Publix, Walmart, CVS

Community Health of Northwest Florida is removing the barriers for eligible residents to get the COVID-19 vaccine by allowing them to bring a current prescription bottle that treats an underlying medical condition that puts them at higher risk for the disease. The organization hosted a walk-in clinic Monday at the Brownsville Community Center and is accepting appointments for three clinics this week, including one evening clinic to accommodate working families. The clinics are scheduled from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday and Friday and from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Brownsville Community Center, 3200 W. De Soto St. Those who qualify for the vaccine can call the Community Health COVID-19 Vaccine Call Center at 850-439-3358 to make an appointment.
