Lorain County GOP commissioners shamelessly claw back money from food bank, crisis shelter, others: Leila Atassi

Lorain County GOP commissioners shamelessly claw back money from food bank, crisis shelter, others: Leila Atassi Leila Atassi, cleveland.com ELYRIA, Ohio – Julie Chase-Morefield was thrilled when she heard the news in late December that her nonprofit, Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio, would soon receive a share of $4.6 million from Lorain County, after her agency had supported the community through a year like none in recent history. In 2020, while the pandemic raged on, Second Harvest had provided food for 154,000 people nearly twice the number the organization had served the year before. That’s about a third of the population in its service region, Chase-Morefield told me. With the $236,000, Second Harvest had planned to set up more drive-through distribution sites in underserved areas and help its partner pantries expand capacity with more food, shelving and cold storage.
