Signal app suffers global outage
Cross-platform messaging app Signal that garnered millions of new users within days of WhatsApp s new policy faced a global outage on Friday. Users were unable to send or receive messages on both mobile and desktop applications. The company said that it was experiencing technical difficulties and that it was working hard to restore services as soon as possible .

California-based messaging app Signal s co-founder Brian Acton, who also co-founded WhatsApp, has said that he finds the latter s new privacy policy very confusing and hard to follow. Acton said the update renders the possibility of users data being shared back to Facebook, which owns the platform, to increase the company s capability to target customers.

BENGALURU/MUMBAI: As the furore over changes in WhatsApp’s privacy policy grows, a wide range of companies have started mandating migration to messaging platform Signal. These include new-age tech startups, older corporates and their senior leadership teams who are now using Signal for day-to-day work chats and sharing of internal documents.
Paytm and PhonePe, both of which are threatened by WhatsApp’s recent entry into payments, used the controversy to encourage their teams to shift out of WhatsApp. Naveen Jindal-led Jindal Steel & Power is moving out too.
