Large Crowd Gathers to Cheer Up Cancer Patient at Albany Med At around 6pm Thursday evening, a massive crowd of police officers, firefighters, bikers, cheerleaders, friends, family and complete strangers gathered below the foot bridge at Albany Medical Center to lift the spirits of an 11-year-old girl named Anna LaBella.  They held signs, made t-shirts, chanted her name, and it was beautiful. Anna, an Ilion native, is currently receiving treatment at Albany Med bravely fighting Ewing s Sarcoma, a rare form of cancer that occurs in the soft tissue of the bones.  For Anna, this is her second battle with cancer, and for the last two years she s been mostly alone, isolated and depressed as she fights for her life.

The community is mourning the loss of an Altoona student taken by cancer. Kaylee Kruise, a fifth grader at Ebner Elementary School, died Friday after a more than two-year battle with brain cancer. According to her parents, Richard and Melissa Kruise, Kaylee “warmed everyone’s heart with her sweet smile.” The Kruises have been touched by the community’s outreach. “We received support from the school with dress-down days,” the Kruises said in a text message. “They had the teachers pay money to dress down, and it (went) to our family. We also received support from the Brian Morden Foundation and Fighting All Monsters,” organizations that fight childhood cancer.

He was diagnosed with a form of cancer in his right leg in Aug. 2019. He had treatment, but the cancer spread and doctors told his family it s terminal.
