Cannabis retailers have once again shown why experts are calling legal marijuana markets “pandemic-proof”. March 2021 saw the highest monthly recreational marijuana sales in Illinois history, according to new data released by the state’s Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
Illinois Sells Over $109 Million of Legal Pot in March
Before last month, January 2021 held the record for the highest monthly adult-use marijuana sales in Illinois history, with $88,813,872 worth of cannabis products sold. The hot start to the new year was a part of a widespread trend across the nation’s legal cannabis markets skyrocketing cannabis sales during the COVID-19 pandemic.

SANDISFIELD â A company s long battle for a permit to grow and process cannabis in the Berkshires advanced Monday when the Select Board approved the plan, and set a number of conditions.
Those include control of odors and noise, as well as security, hours of operation and use of 100 percent renewable energy. A surety bond to force restoration of potential damage to roads could face legal hurdles, said board chairman Brian O Rourke, but Sama Productions LLC is planning to take photos of the road before and after and to restore it to its initial state.
SANDISFIELD â A cannabis grower seeking to operate a greenhouse and manufacturing business has given town officials additional information they had requested to inform their vote Monday on whether to grant a special permit for the project.
The company, Sama Productions LLC, provided details on the potential for noise, pollution, and proof that the company can operate its proposed business on property it owns near the state forest.
The deed attached to the company s three lots totaling 60 acres, however, has a restriction placed on it by the property s seller that Jesse Belcher-Timme, an attorney for a group of residents, says should, in part, disqualify the company from receiving the permit. That restriction says only single-family homes can be built there.

SANDISFIELD â As several cannabis firms vie for permits to operate here, the Planning Board will present a draft of its first set of proposed regulations for the industry at a public hearing Thursday.
The hearing will be held by phone and videoconference at 6 p.m. to propose a final set of bylaws to be voted on at annual town meeting, the date of which has not yet been set.
SHEFFIELD â Amid fierce opposition and grilling from residents late into the night, the townâs Planning Board Wednesday delayed a decision on a permit for an outdoor cannabis farm in Ashley Falls.
The board moved its teleconferenced discussion and possible vote to March 10 for Wiseacre Farmâs plan to grow 95,000 square feet of marijuana crops at 286 Polikoff Road for wholesale distribution. The 21-acre parcel lies in the general business and rural districts.
The board heard a slew of pleas to reject the project.
Jon Piasecki, co-owner with Anthony Bowen, said the Ashley Falls farm would be one of the largest outdoor cannabis-cultivation ventures in Massachusetts. It would employ five to 12 workers, with the most during harvest season months.
