A 96-year-old former solicitor has become Britain s oldest graduate after completing a degree in fine art
Archie White is believed to be Britain s oldest graduate after he completed a degree in fine art at the age of 96.
The former solicitor, who studied at East Sussex College, retired at 92 and had a stroke five years ago.
He says age is no barrier. And his energy, like his paintings, knows no limits.
He told ITV News: If you truly wish to do something, art is irrelevant. It is the desire and the fulfilment.
Archie wants to set up a charity to help arts graduate, although he says you don t need a degree to enjoy art. Anyone interested in helping can email hellohe@escg.ac.uk

A pensioner is thought to have become the UK’s oldest ever university graduate after receiving his degree at the age of 96.
Archie White was awarded a BA (Hons) degree in Fine Art from East Sussex College in Hastings earlier this year.
He was born in 1925 when George V was still on the throne and a pint of beer cost 73p.

EXCITING plans for a college’s multi-million pound expansion have been revealed. East Sussex College has revealed a new three-year strategy which could see a whole new site being built in Newhaven. There are also plans for new developments at the college’s campus sites in Lewes, Eastbourne and Hastings. A virtual public consultation has been launched, with college chiefs keen to hear the views of students, parents and carers, employers, community leaders and strategic partners. If successful, the college will get a £20 million investment boost from the Government. East Sussex College principal and chief executive Rebecca Conroy said: “We are extremely proud and really excited to unveil the new strategic plan for our college group.
