LAHORE: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) is likely to launch a fresh probe into the multi-billion-rupee sugar scam after removal of the head of the investigation team that had instituted first information reports (FIRs) against the estranged leader of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), Jahangir Khan Tareen, and other sugar barons.
“After removal of the sugar scam inquiry team head, FIA Lahore Director Muhammad Rizwan, any action against those nominated in the FIRs has virtually come to a halt at least for the time being,” an official source told

A LHC division bench comprising Justice Sardar Sarfraz Ahmed Dogar and Justice Asjad Javed Ghural ordered the jail authorities for immediate release of PML-N Chief and Opposition Leader in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif in money laundering case.
A LHC division bench comprising Justice Sarfraz Ahmed Dogar and Justice Asjad Javed Ghural passed the order on petition moved by Shehbaz Sharif. The bench granted him bail against two surety bond worth Rs 5 million.
The court directed the jail authorities for immediate release of Shehbaz Sharif.
It is a major political development and big relief for the PML-N during these testing times. Last month, Hamza Shehbaz, the son of Shehbaz Sharif and Opposition Leader in Punjab Assembly, was granted bail Chaudhary Sugar mills case.
LAHORE: Widening its probe into the multi-billion sugar scam, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has initiated action against two mills in which federal minister Khusro Bakhtiar and his family members have major shares.
The Lahore FIA on Thursday summoned the heads of accounts and sales of the Two-Star Sugar Mills and Alliance Sugar Mills, owned by Rahim Yar Khan sugar group related to Mr Bhaktiar and his family members for April 15 and 16, respectively.
“The investigation against Mr Bakhtiar and his family members’ related sugar mills has been launched after their alleged links with the sugar pricing manipulators (satta-agents) surfaced,” an official told Dawn.

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Wednesday allowed time to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to file its rejoinder to a reply by PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz in a petition of the bureau seeking cancellation of bail granted to her in a money laundering case pertaining to the Chaudhry Sugar Mills.
As a two-judge bench resumed hearing of the NAB petition, Special Prosecutor Faisal Raza Bokhari sought time to file a rejoinder of the bureau after going through the reply submitted by the respondent. Headed by Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar, the bench allowed the request and adjourned further hearing till April 28.
