Maly and Edwards Earn NCAA Division I Women s All-Pacific Region Honors – University of New Mexico Lobos athletics

KANSAS CITY, Mo.  Gwen Maly and Jadyn Edwards of The University of New Mexico women’s soccer team have earned 2020-21 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Women’s All-Pacific honors after a historic season by the Lobos. Maly was named to the All-Pacific First Team, and Edwards was named to the All-Pacific Second Team. “I am thrilled for Gwen and Jadyn to be recognized,” said head coach Heather Dyche. “They are players who consistently put the team first and help those around them to be better on and off the field.” Maly is just the second Lobo in program history to earn All-Pacific First Team honors, and the first since 2010. Maly finished the season with nine goals, three assists and averaged 1.62 points per game. The redshirt-senior started in every match this season and is tied for ninth in program history for goals in a season (9) and game-winning goals (4). Historic Season Comes to an End for the Lobos in North Carolina

WILSON, N.C.  The University of New Mexico women’s soccer team’s historic season came to an end on Friday evening, falling to TCU 2-6 in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament. The Lobos had a dominant first half and led the match going into the second 45′, thanks to a goal by Alesia Garcia in the 28th minute. However, it was not enough to hold off the Horned Frogs as they went on a four-goal scoring run in the first six minutes of the second half. Garcia scored another goal in the 79th minute, but the Lobos were unable to make a comeback.

New Mexico Makes State History and Advances to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament

WILSON, N.C.  For the first time in state history, a team from New Mexico has advanced in the women’s soccer NCAA Tournament. That team is The University of New Mexico Lobos (10-1-1), who edged out Navy 1(4)-1(2) in a penalty shootout thriller on Tuesday in Wilson, North Carolina. Junior Alesia Garcia scored the equalizer in the 71st minute, allowing the Lobos to fight on through two overtimes and a PK shootout. With Emily Johnson in goal, the Lobos took down the Midshipmen (4-4-3) 4-2 in the penalty kicks. “This was enormous. I am from New Mexico, and I think the state has a storied soccer history with Coach Fishbein, certainly New Mexico United, and without question what the previous staff did before I got here,” said head coach Heather Dyche. “I am a competitive person.
