Mountblow flats: Brunswick, Montreal and Quebec House tenants asked for views on blocks future

The three blocks have become increasingly unpopular PEOPLE living in three notorious blocks of flats in Mountblow are being asked to share their views on what should be done with the buildings. Brunswick House, Montreal House and Quebec House, all built in 1964, were identified for review by the council’s Better Homes board due to unpopularity because of their block layouts and recurring anti-social behaviour. Last month the Post told the story of one Quebec House resident who said she’d been left scared to enter her kitchen after discovering a dead rodent and chew marks on her appliances. Now the council is asking people living in the three blocks to have their say on a range of options for the buildings – which are home to 78 properties between them – and the surrounding area in a bid to make Mountblow a more desirable place to live once again.

David Boston obituary

Last modified on Sun 18 Apr 2021 12.31 EDT David Boston, who has died aged 89 of cancer, had an outstanding career in museums including 28 years as director at the Horniman Museum, whose future he helped secure when it was threatened by the abolition in 1985 of its funder, the Greater London council, by the Conservative government. Instead of it being consigned to a local authority that he knew could not afford to maintain it, Boston won the argument to gain the Horniman direct government funding, in effect giving it national museum status. The Horniman, which is in Forest Hill, south-east London, boasts world-class collections, including ethnographic, natural history and musical instruments, all set in glorious public gardens. It began in the drawing-room of a millionaire tea importer, Frederick Horniman, who wanted “to bring the world to Forest Hill”, then a genteel leafy Victorian suburb of large villas.
