A group trying to protect Chinatown’s heritage has rebuffed a request from the Ville-Marie borough that it “start a conversation” with a developer planning to redevelop the area’s most historic block.
“The real estate developer who wants to build a project at 1000 St-Urbain St. wants to work with the community to achieve social acceptability for his project,” Karine Ayotte, an urban planner for the Ville-Marie borough, said in an email sent Thursday to members of the Chinatown Working Group, as well as community leaders in the district.
