Vietnam plans to run a 6-month pilot program on receiving foreign travelers to Phu Quoc Island, slated for October this year.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) is consulting with ministries and branches on the pilot program which will be implemented in two stages.
In the first three months, Phu Quoc would receive 2,000-3,000 travelers a month on chartered flights. The travelers would be served within certain areas to be determined by the locality.

Once branded “Hell on Earth” for the notorious jail which witnessed the most terrifying scenes of oppression during war time before 1975, Phu Quoc island in the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang has now become the country’s first island city with tremendous economic and social development.

Before the liberation of the southern region on April 30, 1975, the US and its puppet administration in the South built Phu Quoc prison to confine Vietnamese revolutionary soldiers, who were subjected to barbaric forms of tortures such as nailing on hands, feet and even head, stabbing the burned copper wires into the skin, drilling teeth, and burning and burying alive.

NA Standing Committee convenes 55th session
National Assembly (NA) Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue chaired the 55th session of the 14th NA’s Standing Committee, which was held in Hanoi on April 27 to review the outcomes of the 11th meeting of the 14th NA and give initial opinions on the preparations for the 15th legislature’s first session.
Participants discussed and made decisions on issues related to establishing and adjusting administrative boundaries in the capital city of Hanoi, and the provinces of Thanh Hoa, Dong Nai and Tuyen Quang; the boundary adjustment to expand Hue City of Thua Thien-Hue Province and arrangement of wards in Hue City.
