Denis Richer, 48, was expected to enter pleas and be sentenced in the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Sudbury on Tuesday concerning numerous driving-related charges, but his lawyer was unable to attend the hearing.

Lawyer Nick Xynnis informed the court via Zoom link from Toronto that Richer’s lawyer – Glenn Sandberg – had to travel to Hamilton to attend the funeral Monday of legal colleague Norm Williams.
Richer’s charges include dangerous driving, several counts of driving while suspended, driving without insurance

“It became clear (Wolfgang Fellbaum) no longer supports the resolution that brought us to this juncture,” lawyer Glenn Sandberg told Ontario Court Justice Andrew Buttazzoni. “There has been a solicitor-client breakdown. I can no longer represent Mr. Fellbaum even if I had intention to.”

Sandberg then asked to be removed as Fellbaum’s lawyer. Justice Buttazzoni agreed.
Fellbaum, who was court in person and accompanied by two family members, indicated he was planning to get a new lawyer.
As a result, the case will head to Ontario Court assignment court on Aug. 25 at which time a new lawyer is expected to be representing Fellbaum.

A Sudbury man who used a paintball gun to rob a fast-food restaurant will likely be sentenced in late June.
Wolfgang Fellbaum, 36, pleaded guilty in the Ontario Court of Justice on Wednesday via Zoom link to an amended charge of use of a firearm – a paintball gun – to rob a man and did use violence.

The original charge referred to a large, assault rifle-style firearm.
Facts in the case were not read in, but will be at the sentencing hearing.
The charge concerns a robbery at the drive-thru of the McDonald’s restaurant on The Kingsway on Nov. 17, 2019, during which a firearm was displayed.
