Judges sentencing people for crimes have to take into account a lot of different factors when determining the appropriate punishment.
But this week a serial shoplifter made it perfectly clear he had no interest in hearing a judge s explanation of how he had reached his final decision.
Liverpool Crown Court heard Kevin Haywood had an eye-watering criminal record, featuring a truly staggering number of previous convictions.
And when Judge Thomas Teague, QC, gave his sentencing remarks, the career criminal moaned: Oh my God, will you just sentence me?

The pain felt by the loved ones of murder victims is unimaginable.
Nothing can be worse than having someone you cherish torn from your life in the most brutal of circumstances and gone forever. But remorseless killers often add insult to injury by making grieving families endure the ordeal of sitting through trials and having to listen to their self-serving excuses in court.
Sometimes the lies told are so desperate that it is hard to believe even the person telling them believes they have a chance of conning a jury.

William Raison was 15 when he was in the choir at St Margaret’s School, Westminster.
His stepdaughter, Melissa Hall, said: “One of his big achievements was singing in the Queen’s coronation in 1953.
“We have all the memorabilia, his rehearsal schedule, the programme with his name in it, the certificate and the medal he received.

“He used to tell us all about it, how he cycled there for rehearsals when he lived in Fulham, how the actual day was really long as he and the other boys had to sit up in the gods very quietly for hours but they all got to go to a big bun fight after the ceremony in celebration.
