Calon FM logo. A COMMUNITY radio station in Wrexham is to close after 13 years. Members of the Calon FM Board made the announcement that the station, which has been broadcasting since 2008, is set to close following Glyndwr University ending its partnership. On hearing the news that it was to close, Wayne Price, chair of Wrexham Town Centre Forum has expressed his sadness for the station which he described as being an invaluable tool and resource for the community. He said: Calon FM has been exceptional during these difficult times, promoting the town centre, its traders, its small independent businesses, offering excellent business advice and being an optimistic soul, I hope that this will continue long after the pandemic has gone.

Wrexham’s Calon FM facing closure after 13 years
Wrexham community radio station Calon FM has informed its team that it will have to close in the new year.
The move follows the withdrawal of support from Wrexham Glyndwr University, where the station is based.
Calon FM has formed part of the university experience for some students studying related courses including radio production and broadcasting and journalism.
The university has hosted the station and provided funding but has now made the decision to end the partnership.
Up to 2019, station owner Calon Communications Limited was working with the university on a five-year plan, with Calon working towards the radio station covering its own costs as far as possible.
