Dr. Jaime Butler-Dawson, from the Center for Health, Work, & Environment (CHWE) within the Colorado School of Public Health (ColoradoSPH), has received a Career Development Award from the National Institutes of Health. The three-year K01 grant from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences will provides support to examine the environmental determinants of kidney injury in female sugarcane workers and female community members in Guatemala.
Dr. Butler-Dawson is a research instructor in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health (EOH) at the ColoradoSPH and is a founding member of the Climate, Work and Health Initiative. Her new study is part of CHWE s efforts to identify and prevent exposures that may contribute to the epidemic of chronic kidney disease of unknown origin (CKDu) in Central America.
HOUSTON A Houston area McDonalds is facing a suit after a customer fell on slippery, wet floor and suffered injuries.
Lovelance Sagay filed a complaint May 11 in Harris County District Court against H.K. Smith Management Inc., doing business as McDonalds and McDonalds alleging premises liability.
According to the suit, the plaintiff was at the McDonalds on West Sam Houston Parkway in Houston on May 16, 2019, and slipped and fell on a slippery substance that was on the floor of the restaurant. The plaintiff alleges that there were no warning signs posted about the dangerous condition and that the fall resulted in serious and permanent injuries.

The Center for Health, Work & Environment at the Colorado School of Public Health (ColoradoSPH) and the Colorado Consortium on Climate Change and Human Health have launched the Climate, Work & Health Initiative (CWHI). CWHI is an interdisciplinary team of expert researchers, scientists, doctors, and public health professionals dedicated to combating the effects of climate change on vulnerable populations.
CWHI s approach to this dedication is four-fold; consisting of education, research, policy, and public health practice. Founding members include Dr. Katherine James, Dr. Lee Newman, Dr. Cecilia Sorensen, Miranda Dally, Dr. Jaime Butler-Dawson, Diana Jaramillo, Lyndsay Krisher, and Francesca Macaluso. The team will rely on its own expertise and also lean on its existing relationships with academic, industry and community partners.
