Image Source: IANS News Patna, March 11 : The claim of zero tolerance against corruption by the Nitish Kumar government seems to be falling apart as the state health department promoted a tainted official as Additional Director, who is an accused in a bribery case. Dr. Roop Narayan Kumar, who has been promoted as Additional Director as per the notification of the health department dated March 8, was caught by vigilance officials for taking bribe of Rs 700 from an employee of the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Bhagalpur district in 1998. He was promoted as civil surgeon of Araria district, just two months ago.

The accused cops were posted at Purani Basti police station of Basti district in the state. Gorakhpur SSP Jogender Kumar said, We have also recovered Rs 19 lakh cash as well as gold and silver worth Rs 12 lakh and Rs 4 lakh respectively from their possession. Besides, the SUV used in the crime was also impounded.

Representative image GORAKHPUR: Gorakhpur police on Thursday arrested six persons, including three policemen posted at Purani Basti police station of Basti district, for looting a jeweller and an employee of another jeweller of Maharajganj district on Wednesday in Gorakhpur. “We have also recovered Rs 19 lakh cash and gold of around Rs 12 lakh and silver of around Rs 4 lakh from their possession and SUV used in crime,” said Gorakhpur SSP Jogender Kumar. Basti police administration has suspended 12 policemen of Purani Basti, including the three who were found to be involved in the crime. “The three policemen found to be involved in the loot have been suspended. Nine other policemen have also been suspended as they showed laxity in discharge of duty and also concealed the information about their absence from duty.” SP Basti Hemraj Meena said.
