WESTON, WI (WSAU-WAOW)Â Â The parent company of Wisconsin Public Service, WEC Energy Group, recently put out its climate goals. It will impact the amount of energy generated at the Weston Power Plant.
The company says itâs already cut carbon dioxide emissions by half since 2005; its goal is to reach net-zero carbon by 2050. To reach those goals, two generators will be shut down. Itâs unclear when the changes will take place, or what impact it might have on jobs at the Weston facility.
The company calls its 2050 goal ESG, which stands for efficiency, sustainability, and growth. âWhat weâre doing with those emissions goals is implementing our ESG progress plan, and that is investing nearly $2 billion in new renewable energy facilities here in the state of Wisconsin,â said Matt Cullen, Senior Communication Specialist for WPS.
