County pursuing new jail funding, location

COSHOCTON - Coshocton County officials continue to pursue construction of a new jail as they solidify funding and location. 
Coshocton County Commissioners originally bought the vacant lot at the corner of Seventh and Walnut streets, once home to Central Elementary School, for a new Coshocton Justice Center. In March, it was announced the lot will have buildings constructed for Coshocton County Emergency Medical Services and Coshocton County Coordinated Transportation Agency.
Commissioner Dane Shryock said they received some public pushback to locating the jail near the library, a school and a few churches. Shryock recently said the county is in talks with the Coshocton Port Authority for 15.8 acres land it owns at the end of North Third Street, former site of Steel Ceilings. Business is booming for contractors, most seeking new employees
Time of year and stimulus funding means there is plenty of commercial and private work
COSHOCTON – Construction and remodeling is a booming business currently and the COVID-19 pandemic has something to do it with it.
While local contractors said people often do such projects in the spring, the available funding to do so is more than usual. This includes stimulus money for individuals and CARES Act funding for government agencies leading to capital projects or freeing up other money for such projects. Bill Dunfee of Cross Builders said he knows when new stimulus checks hit, because he starts getting calls for home improvements. ....
