Guilty of duping business into paying ₹42.70 lakh
The Kozhikode Judicial First Class Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday sentenced Saritha S. Nair to six-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) and slapped a fine of ₹40,000 in connection with a solar cheating case.
Pronouncing the verdict, magistrate K.K. Nimmi found Saritha, second accused, guilty of duping Abdul Majeed, owner of Associated Steels Yard, into paying ₹42.70 lakh after promising him franchises in solar panel and windmill farm companies in 2012.

Charge sheet against Saita Nair and others was submitted in December 2013 and the trial began in January 2016 The Kozhikode Judicial First Class Magistrate’s Court on April 27 found Sarita S. Nair guilty in the solar cheating case. Magistrate K.K. Nimmi will pronounce the quantum of punishment later in the day.
Sarita Nair, along with her partner Biju Radhakrishnan, had allegedly duped Abdul Majeed, owner of Associated Steels Yard, into paying ₹42.70 lakh after promising him franchises in solar panel and windmill farm companies in 2012.

Nair, the prime accused in the solar scam, following a warrant recently issued by the Kozhikode Judicial First-Class Magistrate Court. She was taken into custody from her house in Thiruvananthapuram in the morning. District Police Chief (Kozhikode City) A.V. George said the arrest was recorded as the accused did not appear before the court for final hearing even after issuing multiple warrants. She would be produced before the magistrate soon, he said.

The Kozhikode Judical First Class Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday remanded CPI(M) State committee members P.A. Mohammed Riyas, T.V. Rajesh, MLA, and district committee member K.K. Dineshan to judicial custody for 14 days in connection with a protest march taken out by DYFI activists to the Air India regional office in 2009.
Magistrate V. Vinod remanded Mr. Riyas to judicial custody in another pending case in connection with a protest march taken to the Nadakkavu police station.

Sarita, two others did not appear in court to hear verdict The Kozhikode Judicial First Class Magistrate’s Court on Thursday issued an arrest warrant against solar scam accused Sarita S. Nair, Biju Radhakrishnan, and B. Manimon for not showing up in court to hear the verdict in a cheating case.
Magistrate K.K. Nimmi adjourned the pronouncement of the verdict till February 25. The court also nullified the bail granted to the three accused and rejected their application seeking exemption from appearance in the case.
