Fort Collins City Council election: 20 questions with Molly Skold

The Coloradoan sent a 20-item questionnaire to all Fort Collins City Council candidates, seeking their viewpoints and policy ideas about a range of city issues. The Fort Collins municipal election is April 6, and the City Clerk’s Office will send ballots in the mail by March 19. Check your voter registration here to make sure you get a ballot. Council members are elected by district, and the mayor is elected city-wide. Check which council district you live in here. Molly Skold is running for mayor. Here s a good reason to visit.  Denver Night Lights debuted before the pandemic hit, but it continues to invite artists to create illuminating works that light up the Clocktower on the 16th Street Mall Tuesdays through Sundays after sunset. The March lineup, which is devoted to the Month of Photography, has the theme Reimagining Hope, and the work on display was created by members of Indigenous Photograph, a global community of visual storytellers who come from a diverse range of Indigenous communities across six continents. FoCoMA and Fort Collins Museum of Discovery Announce Music Industry Night March 3rd

In partnership with Music City Hot Chicken, Music Minds Matter, and Vindeket Foods, this event aims to connect musicians with resources and provide a safe way to gather with others. Musicians can check in at the Music Minds Matter mental health station, enjoy local electronic musicians in our gallery, experience a laser light show in the OtterBox Digital Dome Theater, and make their own music in our giant socially distanced jam space. Dinner will be provided courtesy of Music City Hot Chicken! Musicians can enjoy a free meal while taking advantage of a myriad of resources for musicians and members of the music community.

Colorado Arts Relief Grant Funds 722 Artists, Businesses and Nonprofits

As artists and cultural organizations around the state struggle to keep their enterprises alive during the COVID-19 pandemic, foundations and government alike are finding new ways to help the creative sector survive. Colorado Creative Industries just announced 722 grants awarded by the Colorado Arts Relief Grant, which will give individuals, businesses and nonprofit organizations a total of $7.4 million in COVID-19 relief funds released by the Colorado Legislature during its emergency session late last year. “Colorado’s arts, culture and entertainment industries play a critical role in our economy and are essential to our recovery and resiliency,” notes Colorado Creative Industries director Margaret Hunt in a statement announcing the grants. “The Colorado Arts Relief program offers direct funding to the individuals, businesses and organizations most severely impacted by COVID-19 capacity restrictions.”

The grants were part of the COVID relief provided by the Colorado legislature during its special session in December. Colorado creative businesses such as those involving music, theater, dance and visual arts have been among the businesses most impacted by the pandemic, according to Colorado Creative Industries. Between April and July 2020, creative industries as a whole lost 59,600 jobs and $2.6 billion in revenue, CCI said in a press release. The estimated losses contracted the region’s creative economy by 31% in terms of employment and 8% in annual sales revenue.
