A TEACHER is standing for Labour in the Goring division at the Oxfordshire County Council elections on May 6.
Judi Green, 44, who grew up in the area, is up against Conservative incumbent Kevin Bulmer, who is chairman of Goring Parish Council, and fellow parish councillor Bryan Urbick, of the Liberal Democrats.
Mrs Green, who lives in Whitchurch with her husband Matthew Achibald and their children May, 14, Jimmy, 12, and Jennifer, 10, was raised in Woodcote with her parents Jerry and Isobel Green.
She attended the village primary school, then Gillotts School in Henley and The Henley College.

A WOMAN who accused her former employers of sacking her because they believed she may be autistic has lost her claim for alleged discrimination.
Sarah Hurst, 48, from Goring, is considering appealing after a tribunal judge ruled that the Department for International Trade had valid reasons for dismissing her.
She was seeking £40,000 in compensation from the the department where she worked as a senior investigator for nine months from October 2018. She was claiming discrimination based on sex, age, and perceived disability.
Ms Hurst was fired in June 2019 for “failing to meet the required standards expected” after managers raised a series of concerns about her communication skills.

A COMPANY which wants to build a small gas-fired power plant near Goring will not have to conduct detailed research on the impact on its surroundings.
Dozens of residents have objected to the proposal by Balance Power Projects for four generators and a large battery in a field by the Thames Water sewage plant off Wallingford Road.
They say it would cause air pollution, pose a noise nuisance and spoil views of the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty..
But South Oxfordshire District Council, the planning authority, says these arguments don’t require further investigation before it considers the application next month.

RESIDENTS of Goring who need non-urgent help or advice under the newcoronavirus restrictions are encouraged to call the village helpline.
The service was launched during the first lockdown in March last year and is still offering assistance with daily tasks such as shopping or collecting prescriptions.
Volunteers can also give advice on local services or put callers in touch with neighbours who can check on their welfare regularly.
There is also a free listening service for those who have become isolated and counselling for people needing more in-depth emotional support.
