Black Lightning Recap: Everything You Missed in The Book of Ruin: Chapter One: Picking Up the Pieces
Black Lightning, there was a major change in the status quo for one member of the Pierce family when Jennifer/Lightning (China Anne McClain) flew up into the ionosphere but was soon overpowered by it. The episode ended with her exploding into light. Given everything else that the Pierce family and indeed Freeland is dealing with, it was a stunning moment that left fans wondering what was next for the series as its fourth and final season continues.
This week, the Pierce family finds out about Jen s situation with the family coming together to deal with what might be a major tragedy. Meanwhile, Freeland is reeling from the assassination of the mayor last week while gang violence in the city continues to be a major threat. Of course, Tobias Whale (Marvin Krondon Jones III) is also continuing to be a threat as well, both to Freeland and the Pierce family specifically.

Black Lightning has seen some major shakeups for the Pierce family. Despite being successful against both the Markovians and the A.S.A. last season, the family is more fractured than ever. Jefferson (Cress Williams) had given up being Black Lightning and Jen (China Anne McClain) has become obsessed with her role as Lightning, two things that have caused big challenges for the entire family. And while last week s episode did have some good news for the family with Anissa (Nafessa Williams) and Grace (Chantal Thuy) getting married, things took another unexpected turn when Tobias Whale (Marvin Krondon Jones III) manipulated Lynn (Christine Stewart) into going to dinner with him.

Black Lightning s fourth and final season is in full swing this week but even as The CW series moves forward into post-A.S.A. and post-Markovian war Freeland, things are more dire than ever both for the city and its residents and for the Pierce family as well. The Markvoians may be gone, but now a gang war between the Kobra Cartel and the 100 is making the streets unsafe even costing the life of an innocent child in last week s episode and the Pierce family is deeply fractured. Jen (China Anne McClain) is focused on being Thunder to the detriment of everything else in her life, Jefferson (Cress Williams) has given up Black Lightning but is still carrying out his own personal form of vengeance, Lynn s (Christine Adams) addiction is taking a new form, and Anissa (Nefessa Williams) continues to struggle with Grace s (Chantal Thuy) condition.
