Cove seniors dance the night away

Local seniors age 55 and older danced the night away last Saturday evening at the Copperas Cove Civic Center. The Copperas Cove Senior Center hosted the Copperas Cove Senior Prom 2021. The event included an evening full of dancing, friendship, food and raffle prizes. The tables and Civic Center were decorated in balloons, streamers and other decorations. “We had planned this event, since right after the Cove Sock Hop which we held in the summer of 2019,” said Jeri Wood, the activities coordinator for the Copperas Cove Senior Center. “We wanted to hold this senior prom in May of 2020, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, we had to push it back to now.”

Rabbit Fest kicks off Thursday evening in Copperas Cove after a one-year hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic. The annual festival happens the third weekend of May at the Copperas Cove City Park, 1206 W. Ave. B. Mayor Bradi Diaz will officially open the festivities at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, but the gates open at 4 p.m. Lining the park will be dozens of food and merchandise vendors, along with a carnival from Crabtree Amusements. Voters heading to polls today to select local leaders

Area voters are heading to the polls today to select leadership for city councils and school boards. Voters may want to bring an umbrella as they head out to vote as rain chances in Killeen today are 90%, according to the National Weather Service. Today’s high is expected to be 71, while the low is 63. Thirteen candidates are running for four Killeen City Council seats up for grabs. The winners will become part of the city council, making decisions on Killeen’s future and deciding how Killeen taxpayer money should be spent. The Killeen school board has four people running for two seats. Those elected will decide how children are educated for years to come.
