Police & Fire: Motorcyclist injured in crash with car in Battle Creek

Police & Fire: Motorcyclist injured in crash with car in Battle Creek BIKER HURT: A 34-year-old man from Convis Township, northeast of Battle Creek, was injured Thursday when his motorcycle collided with a car on Beckley Road. Battle Creek police reported the crash at 2:30 p.m. just east of Capital Avenue. Officers said the motorcyclist was pulling from a gas station and rode into the path of a westbound car. Police said the biker was not wearing a helmet and his head hit the windshield of the car. The driver of the car, a man, 23, from Emmett Township, was not hurt. Police were assisted at the scene by Battle Creek firefighters and LifeCare Ambulance.

Calhoun County solar site working with Consumers Energy

The Calhoun Solar Center in Convis Township will soon be one of the largest single projects providing solar energy to people in Michigan.  Consumers Energy will buy 140 megawatts of energy from the Convis Township solar center, which is enough to power about 70,000 residential customers. The project is being developed and built by Invenergy, a Chicago-based developer and operator of sustainable energy solutions. “We are proud to team with Invenergy as we continue to create a cleaner, more sustainable energy future for Michigan,” Tim Sparks, vice president of electric grid integration at Consumers Energy said in a news release. “We are committed to protecting the planet while providing the energy our homes and businesses need for decades to come.”
