Over100 forest fires are currently burning in Northwestern Ontario (MNDMNRF)
DRYDEN, Ont. The provincial government is temporarily imposing some restrictions on industrial activity to reduce the risk of new forest fires starting in Northwestern Ontario.
Measures are now in place for higher-risk forestry operations that have the potential to cause sparks that could ignite a fire.
The Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry (MNDMNRF) says examples of suspended activities include:
blasting related to road work
the use of mechanized power equipment and power saws for harvesting or processing wood
all hot work such as welding, torching and grinding

Fire crews are responding to a forest fire just off of Highway 593 in Neebing, about 50 kilometres southwest of Thunder Bay.
Three fire ranger crews were responding to the fire along with heavy equipment on Saturday, said information officer Jonathan Scott with Ontario’s Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services (AFFES).
Helicopters also helped fight the fire, dubbed Thunder Bay 65, on Friday when it was discovered by AFFES.
Considered not under control and burning at 8.9 hectares, the fire is located about 1.5 kilometres north of Highway 593, about four kilometres west of the Devon Road Mesa provincial nature reserve.
