Matt Manning has had a home run ridden start to his 2021 season. Through four starts, he’s already allowed nine long balls, and while many of them were somewhat cheap, there have been plenty of hard contact and deep fly balls as well. Manning is still striking out more than a batter per inning with a nice walk rate, but he really hasn’t had much consistent command of either his curveball or particularly his changeup, putting too much pressure on the fastball.

Over the weekend, I saw an article in The Athletic regarding Byron Buxton and talks of a contract extension. Or, rather, him wanting an extension. And then our very own Tawny pointed out this article on MLB.com. If you don’t have a subscription to The Athletic or you don’t feel like reading either article, the TL;DR version of these pieces was that Buxton would like an extension, he’s a great player (when he’s healthy), and when he’s healthy he’s a game changer.
Mighty Mussels release schedule; first home game May 11

The Fort Myers Mighty Mussels will return to the field in May for the first time in 18 months.
The 2021 season will consist of 120 games, including 60 home games at Hammond Stadium at CenturyLink Sports Complex. The Mussels’ home opener is scheduled for May 11 against the Clearwater Threshers.
After significant restructuring throughout professional baseball, the Mighty Mussels will now compete in the Low-A Southeast region. The new league consists of 10 teams, all of which are previous members of the Florida State League.
This season’s schedule features a six-game series running from Tuesday through Sunday. The entire league will observe an off day each Monday. The change is aimed at reducing both travel and virus risk.
