JANESVILLEâDirector Jim Tropp had his reasons in picking âGuys & Dollsâ as the featured production for this yearâs Janesville School District Summer Musical.
First, he knew a cast consisting largely of underclassmen could gain valuable experience performing a variety of big dance numbers and song classics such as âA Bushel and a Peckâ and âLuck Be a Lady.â
Second, he figured the romantic comedy would resonate with audiences hungering for laughs after a year of dread and isolation.
âThat was a big reason . coming out of COVID-19,â he said. âThis is a great show for that. Itâs musical comedy; nobody dies in this, and you donât have to think to watch it. Itâs going to have big, beautiful production numbers, and itâs going to be very animated.â

FORT ATKINSON, Wis. As part of a long-standing tradition, Fort Atkinson High School held an all-school ceremony Friday morning honoring the alumni who gave their lives fighting for our country and celebrating the seven seniors who elected to join the military upon graduation.
“It’s about reflection,” said Principal Dan Halvorsen. Past memories, past friends. I have two daughters who are also in the military who are going to be overseas for the next 5-10 years.”
Halvorson has proudly witnessed this celebration for the past eight years. A veteran himself, events like these remind him of why we are the land of the free.
