Only $666m Out Of Targeted $1 5b Oil Revenue Realised 2020

  The government realized $666m out of its targeted revenue of $1.5 billion from the upstream petroleum industry for the year 2020 due to the impact of COVID-19. The drop in the targeted revenue was also attributed to the low oil prices on the international market. The Manager, Project Evaluation at Petroleum Commission (PC), Ebenezer Harmah, disclosed this at Sekondi on Monday, at a stakeholders’ meeting with the Western Region House of Chiefs attended by the Minister of Energy, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, and the Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs Minister, Mr. Kojo Kum. Mr. Harmah explained that since the pandemic broke in the country in   2020,  there had been a  significant drop in crude oil price arising out of demand shock, increased cost of operation, impact on exploration and appraisal investments,  investment attraction, and local content development.

The Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, has received his baptism of fire since he assumed office as President Akufo-Addo’s representative in the region. What started as a meeting to welcome Mr Kojo Kum, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs Minister, and Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh, Energy Minister, to the Regional House of Chiefs on Monday, turned into fireworks when one of the Paramount chiefs decided to put him on the spot. The Paramount Chief of Nsein Traditional Area, Awulae Agyefi Kwame, noted for his forthrightness, was uncharitable when he looked into the face of Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah and told him, without mincing words, that he was unhappy with his conduct as Regional Minister, and that he had also performed abysmally as the government’s representative for the region in the discharge of his duties.

US$ 25 Million Seed Money For National Cathedral - Kojo Kum

  Mr Ebenezer Kojo Kum, Minister Designate for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs has revealed that US$ 25 million has been advanced as seed money for the National Cathedral Project. The nominee who maintained that the National Cathedral Project was still a government priority project however could not tell the total cost of the project. “His Excellency the President has indicated that the project is going to be constructed at very least cost to the State”. Mr Kojo Kum made the revelation when he appeared before the Appointment Committee of Parliament to be vetted on his nomination by President Akufo-Addo for a ministerial role.
