CVUSD bus driver accused of sex abuse investigated by sheriff in 2004


 
Jose Luis Moncada, of Desert Hot Springs, was arrested last year and charged with eight counts of committing lewd acts with three children under 14 years old. The crimes occurred between 2004 and 2010, according to authorities. Moncada has pleaded not guilty to all counts and is currently out of custody on electronic monitoring. He has no other criminal history in Riverside County.
Separately, two women who say they were victimized by Moncada filed a civil suit last week against both the Palm Springs and Coachella Valley Unified school districts. The plaintiffs, identified in court documents only as Jane Doe 1 and 2, say the districts had received reports of abuse but did not handle them properly and inform law enforcement. ....

Coachella Valley Unified reduces graduation requirements amid pandemic


Just 60% of high school seniors in the Coachella Valley Unified School District were on track to graduate last week, before the district’s Board of Education approved a temporary provision that it believes will increase the number to between 71% and 76%.
Instead of requiring the standard 220 credits to graduate, the district will instead require 180 for this year, then consider at a later date whether it makes sense to include credit reductions in the immediate years ahead. Just 57% of all high school students, including underclassmen, in the district are on track to graduate with their classes, according to data provided by CVUSD. ....

It’s often as Mario Ramírez finally wrangles his kids into their seats the fourth-grader studies in the bedroom he shares with his 12 year-old sister, who studies in her parents’ bedroom   in time for virtual class.  The screens freeze  sometimes during online tests. At times the little one bursts into frustrated tears as they wait for their connection to resume, precious class time slipping away.  ....
