30 By 30 The Biden Administration’s 30 by 30 Plan is meant to fight climate change by conserving 30 percent of the nation’s land and waters by 2030. At present, 12 percent of the nation’s land is currently protected. That’s about 289 million acres. The 30 by 30 plan would add 440 million more acres under protected status and bring the total federally protected lands in the U.S. to 729 million acres. What it does intend to do is take land away from farmers and ranchers. Vilsack: “Not gonna happen.” Agriculture Secretary Vilsack responding to a reporter’s question says there are no plans to take farmers lands away to meet climate or emissions goals.

House passes lands bill with Colorado measures

The House of Representatives on Friday passed a multi-state public lands bill that includes new protections for more than 1 million acres of lands in Colorado, and it now likely will face a tougher test in the Senate. Bill sponsors and supporters hailed the House’s 227-200 vote to pass the Protecting America’s Wilderness and Public Lands Act, while U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Silt, reiterated her criticism of its inclusion of widespread acreage in her 3rd Congressional District without her support or that of some affected counties. The measure includes the 660,000-acre Colorado Wilderness Act, sponsored by Rep. Diana DeGette, D-Denver, and the 400,000-acre Colorado Outdoor Recreation and Economy (CORE) Act, sponsored by Rep. Joe Neguse, D-Lafayette. It also includes protections for 821,000 acres in California, 132,000 acres in Washington, and more than one million acres in Arizona, north and south of the Grand Canyon.
