Rehoboth Beach settles lawsuit over Nativity scene at the bandstand

In 2019, then-Mayor Paul Kuhns said the city wanted to stay as neutral as possible and let everyone celebrate the holiday season the way they see fit. The city responded to the lawsuit in August, saying that it had not violated any constitutional rights because it did not have a policy that prohibited religious displays, according to court documents. Commissioners later approved a policy Dec. 7 that prohibits any private unattended displays on city property. This policy does not apply to unattended displays owned by the city. In 2020, Rehoboth Beach displayed a holiday display that included an illuminated menorah, a Kwanzaa display, a snowman, lighted Christmas trees and a crèche it purchased in 2020 consisting of a wooden shelter and at least 10 statues.

Legarski endowment created | News, Sports, Jobs

Apr 16, 2021 The Independent Catholic Foundation has announced that the family of Father Tony Legarski has created the Rev. Anthony J. Legarski Educational Endowment Fund for Seminarians and Permanent Deacons. Legarski participated in deacon candidate interviews, authored a pamphlet describing the role of a permanent deacon and helped clarify guidelines that have become invaluable to newly ordained deacons. In addition, Legarski devoted the last 15 years of his ministry as pastor of St. Mary Parish, Hollidaysburg, and chaplain of both the Catholic Daughters of the America Court 1775 and the Knights of Columbus Star of the Sea Council 4245. The endowment specifies that 60 percent of every annual distribution provide financial aid to diocesan seminarians while the remaining 40 percent will provide similar support to permanent deacon candidates.

Rehoboth officials put city-owned lot on the market

Rehoboth Beach  Delaware  19971United States After years of little to no use, Rehoboth Beach has put the lot it owns at 84 Kent St. up for sale. Commissioners first decided to put the 5,000-square-foot lot that includes a two-story meeting hall up for sale around this time last year as part of the budgeting process for the current fiscal year. The sale was posted on the city’s website Jan. 5. As evidenced by the moss growing on the roof, the building on the lot has sat empty for years. The Kiwanis Club of Coastal Delaware was the most recent organization to use it. Some locals also refer to the house as the Scout House. Sussex County property records call it Boy Scout Hall.
