View Comments A Monmouth man died Wednesday after his vehicle struck a semi-truck while driving a few miles south of Independence. According to the Polk County Sheriff s Office, Joseph Eby, 50, was driving southbound on Corvallis Road at about 10:50 a.m. when a semi-truck driving in the opposite direction attempted to turn westbound onto Parker Road. Eby hit the truck while it was in the process of making its turn, the Sheriff s Office said. Eby was taken by helicopter to Salem hospital and later died. Polk County Sheriff s Office is still investigating the collision.
