As Kansas City grapples with community violence, a new youth internship program is aiming to change the trajectory of at-risk teens. The model has helped cut crime and boost graduation rates in Omaha, and is showing early signs of success here.
Crowded into a small cafe lounge at Manual Career and Technical Center in Kansas City, Missouri, about three dozen people gathered last month to celebrate.
Among them were teachers and administrators, students and parents, community workers and Mayor Quinton Lucas.
July 23: Friday in the Park at North Kansas City’s Festival Pavilion in Macken Park.
