Rodney J Long Becomes First Challenger for 2022 Senate Election-WUFT

Rodney J. Long Becomes First Challenger For District 8 Florida Senate Seat By Alex Flanagan April 5, 2021 Incumbent state Sen. Keith Perry, R-Gainesville, has his first challenger for the 2022 election. Rodney J. Long, D-Gainesville, filed paperwork Wednesday to enter the District 8 Florida State Senate race. In 2020, Long ran and lost against Yvonne Hinson to represent District 20 in the Florida House of Representatives. Hinson carried over 60% of the vote in November. Long hasn’t yet raised any funds for his 2022 campaign; in 2020, Long received $34,889.81 toward his state House race. The 2022 Florida Primary Election, when Long would face any other Democratic challengers, is scheduled for Aug. 23, 2022.

Nonprofits contributing to GOP elections violated IRS laws, group says

Nonprofits that helped fund the campaigns of local Republican candidates in recent elections violated federal tax laws by failing to disclose their substantial political contributions, a complaint filed by a Washington, D.C., watchdog group says. But the head of the nonprofits that provided political contributions to Republican political races  such as the reelection of state Sen. Keith Perry in 2018  begs to differ. William “Stafford” Jones said the allegations brought forth by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics amounts to a “political hit job.” In a Feb. 17 press release, the watchdog nonprofit organization suggests the IRS should investigate two Florida dark money groups who, by collectively spending nearly $3 million on political contributions, “appear to have made politics by far their primary activity in violation of their tax-exempt status.”
