According to its latest statistics, the number of serious collisions in Chatham-Kent dropped sharply from 2019 to 2020, police officials say.
In a police services board presentation Tuesday of the department’s annual report, members heard that fatal collisions dropped from 12 in 2019 to eight last year. The number of life-threatening crashes also plummeted from 19 in 2019 to only eight in 2020.

Of the eight fatal crashes in 2020, Acting Sgt. Jason Herder said, four were alcohol-related while police were still awaiting toxicology results for one collision. In four of the crashes, the driver wasn’t wearing a seatbelt while one collision was deemed to be medical.
