The Carrot River Outback Thunder has announced a major change to their coaching staff.
The team announced on Tuesday, May 11 that head coach Luke Folk was relieved of his coaching duties in early 2021.
The release called Folk “an outstanding person who dedicated a lot of time and energy to the team, but the board of directors had come to a difficult decision of going in a different direction.
Folk joined the staff part way through the 2018/2019 season.

“Carrot River has done a good job in the past few years here with their marketing and branding and putting out that Saskatchewan Outback brand. I really like that and think we can continue to build off that.” Hall said one of his goals will be to grow the community through new residents, as well as providing recreation and programming. “If we can bring in more people and develop the town and put up more housing, a higher population, there’s going to be a lot more opportunities to look into things. Maybe eventually, if we can grow the population we can look into a pool like Melfort.”
“I know we have the skill in our room to be successful, but we need everyone in our lineup to push their pace and get in hard on the forecheck, finish out checks, put pucks on net and get traffic in the dirty areas,” said
Trevor Logan, Carrot River’s head coach. “We did those things [Sunday] night and failed to do them on [Friday] and that’s the difference.” The Outback Thunder bench boss is looking for contributions from the whole lineup. “We need all 18 guys to be going and can’t look to one or two or even a handful of our guys to get the job done by themselves,” Logan said. “[Sunday] night we got a goal from [veteran defenceman]
