âI always just followed my curiosity,â Keith Comeaux said.
Ironically enough, his curiosity led him to Curiosity. Comeaux, a 1989 LSU graduate, works at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California, where heâs been instrumental in the past two Mars rover missions.
The Baton Rouge native served as the flight director for Curiosityâs 2012 entry, descent and landing on Mars.
As the Mars 2020 mission manager, Comeaux led the team through the launch, cruise, approach, entry, descent and landing of the Perseverance Rover, which touched down successfully on the red planet on Feb. 18.
Since then, Comeaux has been working on âMars timeâ to ensure safe surface operations.

When the NASA Perseverance rover completed its 292.5 million-mile journey from Earth to safely land on Mars, an employee with ties to Louisiana was part of the NASA team that watched the landing from mission control, thrilled to see their work reach an historic milestone.
Dr. Keith Comeaux, a proud Louisiana State University and Catholic High alum, tweeted, It s geaux time, from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California on Thursday, Feb. 18.
According to CNN, the rover is called Perseverance, but nicknamed Percy, by NASA s mission control team.
