Growing up in East Windsor, Howard Davner CEO of Freehold-based Beverage USA Holdings Inc., parent company of energy drink Nerd Focus was a born entrepreneur.
“From having a paper route and mowing lawns as a kid to running a valet business in college, I was always into business and finance,” said Davner, 51, a West Orange resident.
After graduating from the University of South Florida with an economics/business degree, he landed a job on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange for a division of Goldman Sachs, where he would ultimately become a vice president and market maker with a seat on the Exchange.
Before the Guild and Murphy s office collaborated on the Shot and a Beer program, he was frustrated with the state s Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control not allowing breweries to offer beer at a discount in order to incentivize vaccinations.
“I was annoyed we couldn’t do anything to help promote vaccinations, said Wells, since we are literally across the street from a mega-site.” It’s great that the Brewers Guild of New Jersey and the State were able to get together on this initiative, said Gretchen Schmidhausler, owner and brewmaster of Little Dog Brewing Company. Little Dog looks forward to pouring some beers for a good cause!

Shot and a beer in New Jersey
Some New Jersey breweries are going to offer a free beer to people who get the coronavirus vaccine.
NEW JERSEY - More than a dozen breweries in New Jersey are going to be offering free beers to the newly vaccinated as part of a program announced on Monday.
Gov. Phil Murphy rolled out the Shot and a Beer program during a news conference from Trenton.
The catch is that the person has to have their first dose of the vaccine in the month of May. People who were vaccinated before May will not be eligible for the free beer.

In the latest move by a state government to encourage its residents to get vaccinated, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy announced on Monday, May 3, that adults who show their vaccination card at a list of eligible New Jersey breweries will be given a free beer as a reward. The “shot and a beer” program is in place now and will be available to all vaccinated adults through the end of May.
The plan is part of Murphy’s new “Operation Jersey Summer,” wherein state officials are aiming to get 4.7 million New Jerseyans vaccinated by June 30. Offering free beer is certainly one way to accomplish that. As of Tuesday, the state of New Jersey has 3.3 million vaccinated residents.
